Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh award is an extremely popular programme that has been successfully running at Shenley Brook End School for over 10 years. Students are able to undertake the Bronze award in Year 9, completing their expeditions in the local areas of Cosgrove and Bromham. Many students then move on to the Silver award in Year 10, travelling to the coastal region of Dorset and to the White Peaks of the Peak District in Derbyshire. The award requires students to demonstrate high levels of commitment and cooperation in order to be successful, especially during the weekly participation in their physical, skill and volunteering activities, and their training for the expedition.
We also offer the opportunity for our Year 12 students to complete their Gold award which has become more popular each year. The students take part in an enrichment programme of training, including the completion of a first aid qualification, before going on to undertake their expeditions in a wide variety of remote locations. Many of our Gold students have gone on to enjoy their experience of visiting one of the royal palaces in order to receive their Gold award.
