Key Stage 3
|
---|
Throughout years 7 and 8 the early focus is on metacognition; students discover what makes them unique before considering how to work to their strengths and develop their weaknesses. There is greater emphasis on safety and staying safe particularly on-line and social media. Students are exposed to the key themes of health and wellbeing, relationships, choices and financial awareness, wellbeing and being a responsible citizen. This spiral pathway allows for more relevant and in depth learning to take place at age-appropriate times. |
Key Stage 4
|
---|
The three key themes in the Life Skills curriculum continue in KS4, in Year 9 students are encouraged to explore a range of issues whilst developing their competence in a variety of transferable skills. Students develop teamwork, problem solving, discussion, presentation, and research skills. In addition, students begin to explore opinions and ideas other than their own. They evaluate information, make informed judgments, and reflect on the consequences of their actions both now and in the future. Life Skills continues into years 10 and 11 and helps student development beyond the standard subject provision. Life Skills helps students to recognise where their skills can be used and how they can be developed. There is a significant focus on career progression and helping students to prepare for the up-and-coming challenges post-16. Outside agencies play an important part in enriching the curriculum throughout Key Stage 4. Students’ skills development and competencies will be assessed by their teachers, rather than through an examination. |
